For the past two decades, Barbara Rubin has cultivated a career as an inventive director of contemporary and classical theatre in New York and abroad. She has worked on Broadway and Off, regionally and internationally in Europe, and in her native South Africa. Barbara is currently the Associate Director for Girl From The North Country on Broadway.

Barbara is a sought-after dialect coach for stage, film, and television. She coached Julia Garner for her role as Anna Delvey in Netflix's Inventing Anna. Among those she's coached are Daniel Radcliffe, Samira Wiley, Anna Chlumsky, Adam Bakri, Noah Robbins, Zainab Jah, Leon Addison Brown, Sahr Ngaujah, Hilary Swank, Jennifer Hudson, Terrence Howard, Rosemary Harris and Carla Gugino. Known for her longtime collaboration with legendary South African playwright Athol Fugard, she coached all five productions in his Signature Theatre Residency, including the 2016 nominated revival of Master Harold... and the Boys. TV credits include Blindspot and Chicago Med (NBC) and Jigsaw (Netflix).

At the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, Barbara is the Director of the third-year Company where she directs and mentors actors on the brink of launching their professional careers.
